Met Gala: the most extravagant event in the fashion calendar. This is the event where the fashion elite descend upon the steps of the Metropolitan Museum in New York City in the most scandalous ballgowns. This exclusive fashion fête is notorious for its over-the-top dress code coinciding with the year’s theme. Contrasting with last year’s “Punk: chaos to couture”, tonight we’ll see something completely different.
This year we have the “Charles James: Beyond Fashion” exhibit in honor of the 20th-century British-born, American-based couturier. We expect to see guests embrace the high society theme with extravagant ballgowns and elbow-length glove to celebrate the premiere of this exhibit hosted by the ice queen herself, Anna Wintour.
Celebrities who are attending include Sarah Jessica Parker, Lupita Nyong’o, Kate Upton, Kristen Stewart, Kim Kardashian, Rachel McAdams and many more, who will no doubt be wearing the most creative couture that you don’t normally see on the red carpet.
So to celebrate fashion’s most prestigious event, here are some of my personal favorites of last year’s punk red carpet who very well played on the theme with punk pieces to others who embraced punk from head to toe.
