MET Gala: China, through the Looking Glass

Yesterday, as the sun came down Fifth Avenue, more than 500 actresses and actors, Wall Street titans, fashion designers and people from the music industry walked down a 150 yard red carpet leading to the MET Museum for the party of the year in the New York and Fashion social schedule.

This year, the Met Gala will be part of a documentary by the filmmaker Andrew Rossi, and recorded by 225 approved photographers, reporters and even tweeters and Snapchatters.

All this behind of the master mind of the cold queen, as she is called.

Anna Wintour in Chanel

Since 1999, Anna Wintour has been the driving force into turning a dinner for museum donors and patrons into one of the biggest fund-raising events and also a global advertisement for her vision in the fashion industry.

Under Ms. Wintour’s reign, the gala has raised more than $145 million for the Costume Institute , with attendees willing to pay $25,000 for an individual ticket or commit to a minimum $175,000 for a table of 10.

The gala has also been good for shaping Ms. Wintour’s position in fashion as perhaps the most powerful person in the industry with total control of the guest list, seating plan, which reporters are allowed and even what selected guests will wear.

This year the gala is devoted to Chinese aesthetics’ influence on Western fashion and guests were asked to attend according the theme. In my opinion, this were the best dressed taking into consideration the theme and creativity of their gowns.
